This year's rendition of Citizens for Safe Schools' annual Character Camp looks a little different than in year's past! Character Camp 2026 will be split into 3 different cohorts based on youth grade level, all with different themes! Each camp cohort meets Monday-Thursday from 12:00pm-3:00pm at the Citizens Institute for Character (CIC) at 729 Main Street, Klamath Falls, OR 97601.
ALL COHORTS have enrollment limited to 20 youth to support quality engagement, so RSVP ASAP to guarantee your youth's spot!
The cohorts this year include:
- Character Camp: Basics 101 (K-5 grades only). Runs from 06/15/2026-06/26/2026. A 2-week summer program for youth in grades K-5, focused on building strong social-emotional and character foundation through games, teamwork, creativity, and reflection. Each day introduces lessons connected to core Character Pillars, including respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Youth will participate in interactive group activities, movement games, crafts, discussions, and reflection circles designed to help them practice healthy communication, emotional awareness, problem-solving, and positive decision-making in a fun and supportive environment. The program creates a safe and welcoming space where young people can build friendships, confidence, and community while learning skills they can carry with them into school, the home, and everyday life. **NOTE: No camp on 06/24/2026 due to 2026 Klamath County Youth Summit! Youth Summit is for Middle & High School Students- click here to learn more: https://www.facebook.com/share/17s2ZPC2hu/
- Character Camp: Feeding Family & Neighbors (6th-8th grades only). Runs from 07/06/2026-07/24/2026. A 3-week summer program for Middle Schoolers that blends cooking, teamwork, and character development! Youth in grades 6-8 learn practical kitchen skills such as meal planning, food safety, budgeting, preparation, and collaborative cooking while exploring how food connects to care, culture, and community. Throughout the program, youth will work together to prepare simple meals and snacks while building leadership, responsibility, communication, patience, and empathy. Discussions and activities encourage youth to think about how cooking can support family connection, service, and self-sufficiency. By the end of the camp, students will leave with greater confidence in the kitchen and a deeper understanding of how everyday skills can positively impact the people around them!
- Character Camp: Reel Talk (9th-12th grades only). Runs from 08/02/2026-08/20/2026. A 3-week High School summer program centered on short-form media creation, storytelling, and positive community impact. Youth in grades 9-12 explore how narrative, video, photography, interviews, writing, and digital media can be used to uplift voices, strengthen communities, and inspire change. Participants learn foundational skills in storytelling structure, content planning, filming, editing, communication, and ethical media creation while creating their own narrative-based projects. This program also emphasizes character development, leadership, self-expression, collaboration, critical thinking, and responsible online engagement. Through guided discussions and creative workshops, students are encouraged to discover and share authentic stories that reflect their experiences, values, and communities in meaningful and constructive ways.
