Founded in 1999, Citizens for Safe Schools (CFSS) is a 501(c)3 youth-serving nonprofit, operating in the Klamath Basin for over 25 years. Our primary programs focus on mentoring youth in a variety of ways, including adult-to-youth, peer-to-peer, and youth-adult-partnership.

Mission Statement: It is our mission to create a safe and drug free community where all children, especially those at risk for delinquency, academic failure, or victimization have opportunities to build resiliency and character – and that all adults feel empowered to help them.

Our Programs 

Kids in the Middle (KIM)

Our flagship, one-to-one mentoring program. Volunteer mentors spend weekly one-on-one time with their mentees.

Peer Mentoring Circles

Professionally facilitated Mentoring Circles designed to help youth with similar lived experiences connect to one another. 

Youth Reengagement Program

Mentoring based support for students who have become disengaged from their education.

Citizens Institute for Character (CIC)

A mentoring center providing opportunities for character development, youth leadership, out-of-school time enrichment, support, and resources.
