Keeping kids safe is more than metal detectors and cops in school. It begins with psychological safety. A child who can count on the consistent presence of a responsible, caring adult in her life is more secure. She’s better able to resist life’s stressors.
She believes in herself and strives to achieve more in school. In our community nearly 40% of children live in a one parent or no parent home, are raised in poverty or in foster care. Attentive adult support is uncommon.
That’s why mentoring matters. Since 1999, Citizens for Safe Schools has been recruiting, training and supporting volunteer mentors for vulnerable youth. CFSS is born and raised in Klamath County, with no national affiliation and financial support. We rely solely on grants, gifts and fundraisers for our efforts to match mentors with youth and to support character education and violence prevention efforts in our schools.
We’ve set a goal to raise $5,000 so we can match more children from our waiting list with mentors in 2017. Please consider a donation of any size to help us reach that goal.

Our goal for 2017 is 75 mentors.
Our demand for responsible, caring adult mentors is very high. Research tells us over 40% of today’s youth lack the social supports needed to reach their academic and social potential. Ten percent of those are considered most at-risk. In Klamath County, that means over 400 kids desperately need our help. Give us a call to discuss how mentoring works. We need you!
